About the Role

We are seeking a diligent and responsible Temple Custodian to join our team. The Temple Custodian will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in and around the temple premises, including the entrance, lobby, auditorium, dining area, kitchen, and other designated areas. The ideal candidate will have excellent cleaning skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

HSMN is seeking a motivated, dynamic individual to serve as temple custodian.  This job will involve heavy lifting and requires occasional early and late hours shift.  The individual should follow temple guidelines in dressing and have good behavior.


Role Responsibilities


  • Responsible for all basic cleaning in and around the temple entrance, lobby, shoe rack area, storerooms, auditorium, auditorium lobby, dining area, kitchen and classrooms.  Cleaning includes dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, picking up larger objects off the floor, and spot cleaning glass and windows.

  • Responsible for arranging chairs and tables in the dining area as required

  • Responsible for keeping the kitchen clean including kitchen utensils, aprons, appliances and floors.

  • Responsible for clearing out garbage from the temple lobby, auditorium, dining, and kitchen area

  • Responsible to cleaning and stocking food items in the kitchen store

  • Responsible for stocking decorative items, tablecloths and other materials used in stage decoration in an orderly fashion in the auditorium storeroom

  • Provide help in setting up and removal of tables, chairs in the auditorium for big events

  • Provide help as needed in decoration for big events

  • Responsible for washing tablecloths used for big events in the auditorium and stocking in the auditorium storeroom

  • Responsible for snow removal from the temple entrance, side walks and spreading salt

  • Responsible for maintaining the temple guest house clean and in order

  • Provide help in cleaning temple upstairs if required

  • Responsible for maintaining temple rest rooms clean. Refills toilet papers, napkins, soap solution etc as needed

  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining Gundicha mandir an extension to the temple


Job Qualifications:


  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required for a temple custodian position. 

  • Experience: Experience working in a temple or religious institution would be helpful

  • Physical fitness: The custodian should be physically fit and able to perform tasks such as cleaning, landscaping, and moving heavy objects.

  • Communication skills: The custodian should be able to communicate effectively with visitors, volunteers, and other staff members, and should be able to provide guidance and assistance as needed.

  • Cultural understanding: The custodian should have a deep understanding of Hindu customs and traditions and should be able to ensure that the temple premises are maintained in a way that is appropriate for religious activities and events.

  • Organization skills: The custodian should be well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

  • Ability to work independently: The custodian should be able to work independently and make decisions on their own, while also being able to collaborate effectively with other staff members and volunteers.

  • Eligibility: The applicant should have the legal status to work in USA.

  • Salary and Benefits: As per HSMN norms.
