Our Journey
1970s
A Community Takes Form
From early 1970s gatherings in homes, Hindu families in Minnesota sought a place to connect and preserve their identities. This aspiration led to the establishment of the original Hindu Mandir, and later, the new Mandir in Maple Grove. This endeavor, a seed of hope, blossomed over time, celebrating its Silver Jubilee in February 2004.
1978
HSMN Is Born
HSMN was born in 1978 in Minnesota, as a non-profit, to celebrate the Hindu faith and preserve customs for the Hindu community. Dr. Saxena, Dr. Sane, Dr. Premanand, and Dr. Chaudhary drafted the Bylaws. Dr. Saxena became President, Dr. Sane Secretary, and Dr. Chaudhary Treasurer.
1979
HSMN's First Temple
In 1979, the Hindu Society of Minnesota acquired a church at 1835 Polk Street NE for their Hindu Mandir; prayers began February 17. Dr. Krishna Saxena became Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Padmakar Dixit President of the Executive Committee for 1980.
2006
First Kumbhabhisheka Performed
The Hindu Temple in Maple Grove was built following Vastu Shastra, with expert guidance and craftsmanship led by Padmashree Muthiah Sthapathi. From 2006 to 2008, sacred Kumbhabhisheka ceremonies consecrated the shrines, bringing them to life as divine blessings for generations.

Our Present & Future
The Hindu Temple in Maple Grove, featuring a grand Prayer Hall with 21 ornate shrines, blends ancient Vastu Shastra with modern design and serves as a spiritual center for Hindus across Minnesota and nearby states. Despite early vandalism, the community responded with compassion and unity, turning the temple into a symbol of devotion, resilience, and timeless Hindu values.
