How do you actually tell if a local recycling center is fair with CRV payouts?

Been thinking about this for a while. With so many small recycling spots around, it is not always obvious which ones run things properly. How do you usually check that a place is legit before showing up with a full load of bottles and cans?

For me it usually comes down to a few quiet signals rather than reviews, which can be hit or miss. I look at whether the place clearly lists what they take, for example clear, green and brown CRV glass, wine and liquor bottles included, and whether they accept aluminum cans both whole and crushed. If a site is vague about categories, that already tells me something. While comparing options in the area, here is the link I ran into, and what stood out was that they spell out the basics, unbroken glass only, standard CRV aluminum, plus a small Tuesday bump of around ten cents extra per pound on cans. Nothing dramatic, but the fact that conditions are stated openly is what I tend to trust more than vague promises of best rates in town.

Beyond that, I usually do one small test run with a modest load before committing a big haul, just to see how the weighing and payout actually go in person.
